Supporting access to Brainspotting therapy for veterans and underserved communities

Grant Program Overview

The MBI Grant Program provides financial support for Brainspotting therapy sessions to eligible clients, including veterans and those who are uninsured or under-insured. Approved grants cover up to 10 sessions at a set reimbursement rate of $100.00 per session.

Therapist Requirements

To be considered for the MBI Grant Program, clinicians must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current MBI member
  • Be fully licensed to practice psychotherapy in their state
  • Have completed Phase 1 and Phase 2 Brainspotting live trainings
  • Have acquired at least six months of BSP experience
  • Agree to seek supervision with a BSP consultant as needed
  • Agree to abide by professional ethical codes
  • Use grants only for rendering BSP therapy directly to clients
  • Work in private practice or accept single-case agreements
  • Coordinate single-case agreements prior to application
  • Include signed Release of Information form
  • Submit completed documentation after sessions
  • Follow all MBI Grant Program guidelines

Client Eligibility

Clients must meet the following base criteria:

  • Can reasonably benefit from BSP
  • Have a diagnosable mental disorder (ICD-10, DSM-5, or PDM-2)
  • Can independently understand and consent to treatment

Limited Healthcare Access

  • Cannot afford premiums
  • Do not qualify for Medicaid/Medicare
  • Have high deductibles (greater than $2,500)
  • Lack mental health coverage

Service Background

  • Veterans of any war or public servants exposed to trauma (police officers, paramedics, 911 operators, first responders)

  • Meet Americans with Disabilities Act Standards

Application Process

Process Overview

  • MBI Member Therapist obtains client consent
  • Application submitted for up to 10 sessions
  • Grant committee reviews within 30 days
  • Approval based on criteria and urgency
  • Reimbursement at $100.00 per session

  • Release of Information form

Note: Grant monies are limited and the number of grant applications that can be approved each year will depend on the amount in the grant fund.
